Logo Design Contest Kicks Off Local Shopping Season in Hurricane
Friday, November 20, 2009 - 09:34 AM
The holiday shopping season is under way in Hurricane and kicking off the fun is a logo design contest complete with $100 in gift certificate prizes from area merchants.
Sponsored by Hurricane City, local businesses and the Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce, this year-round "shop at home" campaign introduces the theme, "Get Blown Away - Shop Hurricane!"
The winning logo design should be unique and represent the campaign theme. The design must also be easy to reproduce on brochures, banners, flyers, signs, T-shirts and other promotional materials. Download the contest application by clicking this link.
The theme was envisioned to support local businesses and owners, their employees, Hurricane sports teams, and community programs designed to make Hurricane a better place for residents and visitors alike.
"We are really excited about this promotion and hope it encourages everyone to shop at home first," said Hurricane City Manager Clark Fawcett. "The more we can shop at home, the more we help our friends and neighbors who live and work here."
Eric Heideman, president of the Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce, said the shop-at-home program will help residents realize there's "a ton of benefits" when shopping locally.

Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 05:29 AM
(1) COMMUNITY GARDEN - The garden is up and running. For more information on volunteer opportunities visit their blog: (www.hurricanecommunitygarden.blogspot.com"
(2) PARKS DEPARTMENT - Two volunteers are needed to help with preparing the softball and baseball fields each week for games. Training is provided but we need volunteers ready for training in March. Frequency is once or twice a week for several hours; schedule is somewhat flexible. Volunteers need to be available at least one day; Monday through Friday; for four hours between 8am and 2pm.
(3) SHOP LOCAL BLOGGERS - We need about 6 volunteers to review shopping experiences, perform weekly blog entries, and coordinate sales and promotions with local businesses. You do not have to have internet access to help with this (arrangements can be made to use a computer at the city offices).
(4) HERITAGE PARK MUSEUM - The Museum needs volunteers willing to commit to a 4 hour shift (Monday - Saturday; between 9am and 5pm) once a week. Volunteers will be trained to interact with visitors and assist with various projects in the Museum.
(5) HURRICANE HALF MARATHON - Volunteers needed to help with aid stations, clean-up, and other areas. This year the race will be held the morning of Saturday, April 24th near Sand Hollow. It should be a lot of fun!
(6) YOUTH COUNCIL - Hurricane city is currently accepting applications from Sophmores and Juniors to serve on Youth Council. Applications are available and can be dropped off at the Hurricane City Utility Office. You must be a resident of Hurricane to apply.
For information on any of the opportunities posted above contact Samantha at Volunteer Services (635-2811 ext.106). For information about on-going volunteer opportunities click here Thank you for your help.
