How to Volunteer for Hurricane City

HURRICANE CITY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!  There are many opportunities for volunteering with Hurricane City regardless of your age, experience, or availablility.  To become a volunteer just complete the following:

  1. Fill out a Volunteer Application.  An application can be picked up in the Utility/Administration Department at the City Office, or click HERE to download a PDF version.
  2. Turn in the completed application to the Volunteer Services Coordinator in the Utility Office or by email (volunteer@cityofhurricane.com) or fax (635-2609 Ext 104).
  3. After receiving your completed application, you will be contacted by the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss volunteer opportunities you are interested in and decide which one you want to try first.  If you can't find anything you're interested in right now, keep checking the website, because Current Volunteer Opportunities are updated at least once a week, usually on Fridays.

    Community Garden

There's a new Community Garden in town!  It was established to benefit the residents of the Hurricane Valley.  It gives volunteers an opportunity to get out in the fresh air and work in a garden, learn how to grow things, and reap the rewards of their efforts.  A portion of the produce will be donated directly to the Hurricane Food Bank.  For more information on how you can be a part of the Community Garden visit the garden facebook page or contact Lisa Atkin (435) 229-3437.

    SPOTLIGHT

    9/7/2012

For the month of September I've chosen to spotlight ANNETTE MARTIN, a wonderful volunteer currently helping the Hurricane Justice Court as a file clerk.  Since March 2010 Annette has volunteered over 350 hours with the Justice Court!  When asked about Annette's service as a volunteer, Sandi Bailey (Court Administrator) had this to say: "...She always shows up with a smile on her face and works great with each and every employee in this court.  Annette completes each and every task given to her and does so in a very efficient manner.  Annette is a generous person, bringing vegetables from her garden to share with us as well as souvenirs and stories from her travels and has never asked for anything in return..."  Before volunteering in the Justice Court, she was in charge of the Hurricane Valley Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon (and she still does that today).  In addition, she has helped with City Events when she is available.  Volunteers like Annette are what keep our community strong.  Thank you Annette!

    Adopt-A-Block

This program is a great opportunity for groups of youth and/or adults to keep our community beautiful!  Interested groups will receive training, a schedule, and be assigned to a block.  The group will be recognized via signage of their participation in the program and in return will be asked to service their assigned block at least twice a year, especially before designated community events.  Trash bags will be provided but volunteers will need to bring their own tools.  This opportunity would be great for youth groups, scout troops, civic groups, clubs, and even families!  Please contact the Volunteer Services Coordinator if this sounds interesting to you.
